An After School Drive

Living on the outskirts of a city has some  disadvantages. One being it is difficult getting to and from places when you have to depend on the school shuttle. A few of us decided we didn’t want to wait for the shuttle, a taxi, or hitch a ride when we wanted to go somewhere. When we got our first paycheck five of us went to the Bizarre and bought scooters. My neighbor Alex and I went in on one. It is a Cadillac of scooters. A nice shiny red scooter with remote control starting and a pretty decent sound system. We have been downloading music on the flashdrive they gave us so when we drive we have tunes to enjoy while taking in the beautiful scenery. The gently sloping hills go on as far as the eyes can see and the run into sharp mountain peaks and rush back down to light brown and burnt yellow plains, all stretching for miles.

We have been going out after school for an hour or so each day. The sun sets around 6pm and by the time we get back from work, change, and gather everyone around it is around 430pm. The rides are not that long during the week but we took a really nice maiden voyage last weekend. This weekend we are heading to Dakan, it is 40 km or so away from school. The school location is great for nice backroad drives, so many little towns and km after km of breathtaking views. Dakan is famous for the lake, hopefully  if the weather stays as nice as it has been we will be able to swim this weekend.

We just arrived back after a brief drive in the dark. After tonight we decided we wont drive in the dark unless absolutely necessarily.Although most of the roads are a straight stretch, there are not any street lays and it becomes very dark very quickly. There isn’t a lot of traffic but when cars and trucks pass they are going very fast, often times passing each other and heading straight toward us. So to be on the safe side we will be driving before sunset.
